Since 2009, I have been advocating for open, equal, and fair access to public crime data (RMS/CAD data). I created this site to share my experience at SpotCrime in hopes of helping others who want to release or access the same kind of data in their own city.
Over the past decade, I’ve had the opportunity to submit legislative testimony on open data, filed thousands of FOIA requests for crime data, and created the only open crime data standard of its kind-the SpotCrime Open Crime Data Standard (SOCS). I’ve evaluated and publicly ranked the transparency of cities across the US based on crime data transparency, and assisted municipalities in making crime data transparent and accessible to the public and press without restrictions.
SpotCrime has earned recognition as a GovTech100 company and OpenData500 company. SOCS has been acknowledged by the Johns Hopkins University Innovation Hub.
If you’re interested in discussing crime data, please don’t hesitate to reach out. I’m always eager to engage in meaningful conversations on this topic.
